Gyri Sulci
2018 – 2024
Installations, various sizes. Metal tabs/ pull-up rings. Cotton thread.
For many years I have been collecting tabs/ pull-up rings from beer and softdrink cans, getting a lot from friends and family, and by 2024 I think there are about 50 000.
At a point I started organizing them according to shapes and colors, and by threading them on threads I could also achieve color shading.
I was astonished that the mass produced metal tabs could shape lifelike, organic structures. Also, the structures reminded me a lot about «gyri sulci shapes»: the folded brain surface.
As many og my central artworks are about neuronal structures /networks, with the brain as a starting point, this brought me right into one of my favorite themes:
It is about modern man’s place in nature, where brain-organic structures enable us to orientate ourselves in an external world, and make us creative people.
It is also about forms that repeat themselves from the micro to the macro plane, a rich and multifaceted narrative that will continue in new ways in new times..
With these thoughts in my mind I have through the years made several site-specific works of art with my pull-up rings, shaped directly on the floor or on a slightly raised plate.

Eir Shine
2023
Eir
2019
Series. Material; Copper wire Unique pieces, hanging sculptures.
The title Eir, the Norwegian word for corrugation, is pointing to one og the characteristics of copper, that I want to emphasize in this project. The dark, burnt wire from dynamos and motors is used together with the shiny, unburnt wire from electric cables.
Eir also has a link to Norse Mythology, as it is the name of one of the goddesses. At the same time the shapes of the Eir objects remind a lot about the lanterns in a Buddhist Temple, as well as the pendant lights in a Christian Church.
